St. Maarten parliament to be informed on Central bank licence fee levies

PHILIPSBURG–Members of Parliament will hear from the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten in a Central Committee meeting on Tuesday about the levying of the one per cent foreign exchange licence fee charged to accounts at commercial banks. The session in Parliament House will commence at 10:00am.

This meeting was requested by MPs Johan “Janchi” Leonard of United People’s (UP) party, Leroy de Weever and Roy Marlin of the Democratic Party almost a month ago. The meeting was not held earlier due to other pressing matters of Parliament’s agenda, especially the adoption of amendments to the 2014 budget.

A second Central Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday at 2:00pm. During that meeting MPs will receive a presentation from J.A. Hunt of Eyelander Entertainment about development of a film industry and a film festival for the country.

Both sessions are open to the public and will be live on St. Maarten Cable TV Channel 120, Pearl Radio FM 98.1, and
