St. Maarten new Minister of Economic Affairs is from Curacao

St. Maarten – Ted Richardson is to become St. Maarten’s new Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication. The 50-year-old is according to our information a former partner in NRG advertising in Curacao. He lives in Willemstad.

Last week Thursday Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams told this newspaper during a chance-meeting that the completion of her cabinet with the seventh minister was almost finished. Though the Prime Minister did not reveal a name, UP-leader Theo Heyliger dropped the name Richardson already when the current cabinet was sworn in at the cabinet of Governor Holiday on almost a month ago on June 14.

Initially Independent MP Romain Laville was earmarked for the position. Reports that Laville had failed to get through the screening for the post deflated somewhat when Prime Minister Wescot-Williams announced that the MP had opted not to go through this process but to name another candidate on his behalf.

Attempts to get a reaction from the Prime Minister to the imminent appointment failed yesterday; Richardson could also not be reached for a comment.
