Interim Chief Prosecutor appointed for six months on St. Maarten


PHILIPSBURG–Hans Wesselink (66) has been appointed Interim Chief Prosecutor for St. Maarten. His appointment is for six months, it was announced on Tuesday. He succeeds Hans Mos, who returned to the Netherlands on August 1.

Wesselink arrived in St. Maarten with his wife on Friday, August 30. He knows the island as he served as Prosecutor in St. Maarten from 1989 to 1993 and at that time had been the first prosecutor residing on the island.

Wesselink occupied several positions at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Rotterdam, Den Haag, Den Bosch and Amsterdam.

In March, 2012, he retired from Public Prosecutor’s Office. In the Netherlands Wesselink had been part of the Legal Experts Review Committee “Toetsingscommissie Gerechtelijke Deskundigen” and also editor of the Criminal Newsletter (“Nieuwsbrief Strafrect”).
